On August 1, 2014, P&amp;G announced it was streamlining the company, dropping around 100 brands and concentrating on the remaining 80 brands, which produced 95 percent of the company's profits. On the 31st of October 1837; 177 years ago the Procter &amp; Gamble company was created.</p><p>They began by supplying the Union Army with soap and candles.</p><p>After the invention of the electric light bulb, the demand for candles fell significantly, thus causing the newly formed P&amp;G to cease their production.
