CONCEPTUAL APPROAHES TO THE ANALYSIS OF

    SOCIO-POLITICAL TENSION

    Vnukova L.B.

The study of socio-political tension is necessary for taking measures in due time

to counter the escalation and destructive manifestations of this socio-political

phenomenon, which is an important task for any political entity (the state). The

essence and mechanisms of socio-political tension are investigated by means of

theoretical approaches of the twentieth century. The theory of structural violence,

human needs theory, socio-psychological and political-psychological theories of

deprivation have been analyzed. Combining the described theories, we primarily

synthesize psychological, structure-functional and system approaches to

understanding the nature and sources of socio-political tension, which is

methodologically justified for practical studies of factors that shape the level of

tension in the society, and in the separate region in particular. The result is the

authors vision of the sources of socio-political tension, such as: dissatisfied basic

needs, certain socio-political structures and institutions reproducing violence,

frustration-aggression, relative deprivation, resource mobilization as the mechanism

for the transition of latent socio-political tensions to critical condition, and then, to

the conflict as an open confrontation between groups in society.

Keywords: socio-political tension, the theory of structural violence, human

needs theory, relative deprivation, theory of resource mobilization.
