Association officialscautioned, however, that construction jobs in</p><p>the highway and transit sector were at riskbecause of Washington gridlock.</p><p>Despite challenging weather conditions inmuch of the country, both the number of work-ers and their average weekly hours rose lastmonth to the highest levels since the reces-sion, said Ken Simonson, the associations</p><p>Construction Firms Add 29,000 Jobs</p><p>After 20 years of discussion and planning, a two-part road project onGreensboros rapidly-growing northwest side is finally under way.</p><p>The 9.4-mi. (15.1 km) long U.S. Highway 220/N.C. Highway 68 con-nector, which will one day be rebranded as I-73, is a four-lane highway under construction justwest and north of Piedmont Triad International Airport (PTI). </p><p>The main part of the $176.5 million project also includes two new interchanges and a pair ofbridges across Reedy Fork Creek. The proj-ect will use conventional open pit mining meth-ods and the cyanide heap leach and Merrill-Crowe processes to recover gold and silver fromcrushed, agglomerated ore. Construction hasstarted on site and commissioning is planned for2015.</p><p>We expect to produce 1 million ounces ofgold and 10 million ounces of silver over thenext decade or so, said Lutz Klingmann, direc-tor and president of Golden Queen, who addedthat he predicts a 12-year mine life. </p><p>Klingmann has been involved with GoldenQueen Mining Co. Ltd. since 2001 and has beeninstrumental in the development and permittingprocess of the Soledad Mountain Project. A sea-soned mine developer, Klingmann has devel-oped six mines, four of which were in the south-western United States, since mid-1981. Hisoperating experience spans the globe andincludes Africa, Venezuela, Canada and theUnited States.</p><p>The primary ore types that will be mined arerhyolite porphyry and flow-banded rhyolite,pyroclastics and quartz latite porphyry repre-senting approximately 70, 10 and 20 percent ofthe ore tonnage respectively. Minor quantities ofsiliceous vein material (0.1 percent) will also bemined. The rock types will be found in differentareas and at various stages of the mine life.
