    2012-13 CONNECTICUT BASKETBALLHusky Notables

    A new era of UConn basketball has begun with Kevin OllieasthefirstnewheadcoachoftheHuskiesin26 years. Ollie is the 18th head coach in the history of UConn basketball. On Dec. 29, Ollie received a 5-year contract extension through the 2017-18 season.

    UConn is in its third season as a television partner of the SNY network. The Huskies have a record of 29-6 (.829) in games televised by SNY. UConn went 11-2 on SNY in 2010-11, 9-4 on SNY in 2011-12, and is 9-0 so far on SNY this season. Todays game is one of 13 UConn games on the nextwork this season.

    FormerUConncoachJimCalhounfinishedhisHallof Fame career with 873 victories (6th all-time) and 1,253 games coached (3rd all-time).

    UP NEXT: Following todays game, UConn will travel to New York City to meet St. Johns on Wednesday, Feb. 6, in a BIG EAST Conference game at Madison Square Garden. The game will begin at 7 p.m. and be televised on ESPNU.

    THE GAME: The University of Connecticut mens basketball team returns to Gampel Pavilion to take on the University of South Florida in a BIG EAST Conference game on Sunday, February 3. Gametime is set for 2 p.m. and it will be televised by SNY. UConn (14-5 overall, 4-3 BIG EAST) is coming off its second straight win, a thrilling 82-79 overtime victory at Providence on Thursday. The Huskies are led by junior guard Shabazz Napier (16.8 ppg, 4.2 rpg) and sophomore guard Ryan Boatright (16.1 ppg, 4.7 apg). USF (10-10, 1-7) has been off since a 63-50 loss at Marquette last Monday.The Bulls are led by junior forward Victor Rudd (10.8 ppg, 6.8 rpg), senior forward Toarlyn Fitzpatrick (10.1 ppg) and senior guard Jawanza Poland (10.1 ppg).

    The number of UConn players in the NBA is more than double that of any other team in the BIG EAST Conference, according to current NBA rosters. There are 13 former Huskies in the NBA, far exceeding the 5 players each from Syracuse and Marquette, who are tied for second place. The rank of the rest of the teams in the league includes: Cincinnati, Georgetown, and Villanova (3 players each), Louisville, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, and St. Johns (2 each), and DePaul, Providence, Seton Hall and USF (1 each).Overall,UConnranksamongthetopfiveprogramsinthecountryincurrentNBAplay-ers, trailing only Kentucky (20), Duke (18), North Carolina (17), and Kansas (14). In all games (through Feb. 1), Napier ranks 5th (16.8) and Boatright 9th (16.1) in scoring among BIG EAST players. ...
