Implications for libraries which are shared by multiple studiesThe library serves many constituencies, with different needs and behavioursLibrary systems must do better at providing seamless access to resourcesLibrarians must increasingly consider a greater variety of digital formats andcontentMore digital resources of all kinds are betterLibrary systems and content must be prepared for changing user behavioursLibrary systems need to look and function more like search engines, i.e., Google andYahoo, and Web services, i.e., since these are familiar to users who arecomfortable and confident in using themHigh-quality metadata is becoming more important for discovery of appropriateresourcesThe library must advertise its brand, its value, and its resources better within thecommunity The digital information seeker: Findings from selected OCLC, RIN and JISC user behaviour projects 7. I mostly use e-journals Who use a library in 2010? Everything should be on the internet.I mainly use the e-journal/e-book resources, which i find excellent. However, the search functions are not great, so I usually locate articles using google and use the library proxy to access them. The digital library is extremely usefulMake a search engine where I can search for keywords in all the databases/e-journals available instead of having to go through every database/journalwith one search word To be able to search the database! ... Which searches all the good databases that you have on your site. But on the same time! It is also good when you cantspecify which area your thing is located in.An improved search engine on the papers we have access to through chalmers libraryBecause we are doing projects and the most quick and effective way is to getinformation is to search on the internet.Help you to know more about different databases. Difficult to know which ones to use.Easier access to published technical reports (I found them very hard to find through thelibrary web page and eventually turned to google instead). 8. The Web, they say, is leaving the era of search andentering one of discovery. Whats the difference? Searchis what you do when youre looking for something.Discovery is when something wonderful that you didntknow existed, or didnt know how to ask for, finds you. - Jeffrey M. A library would probably be doing itself a disservice if itoveremphasized the importance of getting a discoveryservice from a particular vendor just because it alreadyhad, for example, an ILS from that same vendor. Ask thequestions and do the homework, but dont lock yourselfinto a predetermined selection.ALA TechSource Blog Jason Vaughan Discusses Web Scale Discovery Systems 21. Summon is enabling students to go directly to full-text, boosting the use of a variety ofdatabases. For example, Academic Search Premier saw a usage increase of 92% andABI/INFORM rose 354%.Journal usage is up significantly. Before Summon, the use of individual journals in whichthe library had invested was generally going down. However, after Summonsimplementation at the close of August 2009, GVSUs top 100 journals showed an averageincrease in usage of 48% and the top 1000 had increased usage of 82%.Increased usage occurs even for databases from content providers that are notparticipating in the Summon service, a result of the services indexing of the same contentfrom alternate sources.Summon is having an impact on the type of content students are choosing. For example, the library has seen a significant increase in the use of newspaper content.Om effekterna av Summon vid Michigans Grand Valley State University 32. Sumosk funkade ovanligt bra :D 33. 34.
